PROJECT DOCUMENT SIZES
- Sheet size: paper comes in various sizes.
- Bleed: Area that exceeds the live area. The sheet size must accommodate the bleed.
- Trim: live area or the exact area the shows on the printed sheet
- Our print size: Review set-up sheet in InDesign.
GRAPHIC PRODUCTION
- Photography, Scanning, Screen Display, Proofing Printing.
- Color and Light: the print surface is reflective.
- Our eyes see RGB. 10 million shades. More with print.
- Color mixing is done to approximate colors. The screen uses RGB, print uses CMYK.
- Monitors use a light source. RGB or ADDITIVE MIXING. Printing mixes CMYK: SUBTRACTIVE.
- In additive color, they reflect itıs own color -white. Subtractive do not completely filter light, therefore, black is added.
- RGB has a wider gamut than CMYK. Thatıs why the screen has wider possibilities that print.
- Color Reproduction: Screen, Paper type-coated/uncoated/newsprint/castcoated.whiteness,light reflection.
- Use printed color guides.
- Colors are device dependent.
IMAGES
- Object Graphics use Bezier curves.
- EPS files for object graphics.
- Pixel graphics are used for photos. Pixels per inch (ppi, not to be copnfused with dpi) is the resolution infomation. It will determine the reproduction quality.
COLOR MODES: Line Art/2 colors, grayscale, duotones, indexed color, RGB, 4 color images. Necessary memory is expressed in bits per pixel.
- Line art is NOT screened. Therefore it needs a HIGH RESOLUTION.
- The print destination determines how high your print rez can be.
- Grayscale Images are one color pixel based images.
- Duotones and tritone pixel based images that use two or three inks.
- RGB images are for the monitor only. It helps us view the images but does not accurately show print reproduction.
- CMYK is the model used for full color printing. We must always "convert" the RGB image to CMYK. Know that this creates a bigger file.
- INDEX color is used for specific color selections and helps keep the files size down. This is more of a web model, not really appropriate for print. |
