multimedia VISUAL CONCEPTS I
WEEK SEVEN / MID-TERM ASSIGNMENT
Digital Painting
This is an assignment that attempts to bring together much of what we have worked on and talked about to to this point. Mark making, contour, value, space and illusion, color and composition. Bringing all these together to create a color image from a grayscale image

Image Color Construction
A helpful approach to this is to think of BUILDING THE IMAGE. Work first from a supplied grayscale image or a photograph of your own creation. Be sure the image is defined with a rich contrast of lights and darks. Using your pen tool, define the values of gray in shapes. Be sure to create complete paths so you can save them and convert them to selections. Once selected, you can color the selcted area using the "HUE, SATURATION" pallette in the IMAGE>ADJUST menus. This is haow you will color your image. Be sure to create the illusion of volume, depth and space by defining your colors accordingly. Also be aware of the nature of the shapes being used to define the image. Are they resolved shapes? Is the contour of the shape rectalinear, curvalinear or gestural?
These are due in digital form next Monday at the begining of class. These are due in printed form the following Monday, November 1st.
FORMAT
These are to be printed on an 11" x 14" sheet as CMYK images, 300 dpi. The image should be centered in the page with approximately a 2" border all around. The entire sheet is considered a part of the composition. Think of craft, think of finish, think of reproduction quality.
Here are some suggested output services. Call them. Get prices. Look at samples.
